The Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University is pleased to hold our College Commencement ceremony on  Sunday May 12, 2024 at 12:30 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum.

Eligible graduates of West Virginia University are invited to participate in Commencement ceremonies. *Graduates must register in order to participate in commencement.

Commencement Registration

All graduates interested in participating in the weekend MUST register in advance. The registration link will be available mid-semester.

What to Wear

Graduates must wear traditional academic caps and gowns, which can be purchased at the WVU Bookstore or online from Herff Jones. Note: The only exception is military uniforms, which may be worn instead of academic regalia.

All Statler College graduates should wear caps with orange tassels. Ph.D. graduates wear a blue hood and a gold tassel. Students who are graduating with honors will receive their honors cords at the College’s annual Honors Day ceremony, which will be held on April 9, or will receive an email to pick them up from Student Services.

All honors graduates are reminded to bring their cords with them to Commencement. Caps, gowns, tassels, and cords will not be available for distribution at Commencement.

Dressing in light, breathable fabrics is advised. Comfortable shoes are highly recommended!

Ceremony Information

Commencement participants should report to the Basketball Practice Facility (located behind the Coliseum) one hour prior to the start of their ceremony to check-in and line-up for the processional.

Family and friends of graduates should find a seat in the Coliseum upon arrival and not follow their graduate to the student check-in area. Only graduates and faculty will be permitted to enter the Basketball Practice Facility.

Degree candidates will be lined-up for the processional by department, then alphabetically by last name. Degree candidates will hand their Reader Card to the announcer and, as their name is announced, proceed across the stage to receive a diploma cover and congratulations from Dean Mago. Students should return to their seat after exiting the stage.

Doctoral candidates will be hooded by their adviser and/or dean and Master degree candidates will be hooded by Associate Deans at far end of stage before proceeding across the stage.

The ceremony will conclude with the singing of Country Roads.
