Transfer & Transient

Transfer

West Virginia University (WVU) defines transfer credit to be “college level credit” from “accepted regionally accredited institutions” that is brought in by a student who has not yet attended WVU.

Transfer Advising

  1. Go to portal.wvu.edu and login
  2. Click DegreeWorks
  3. In the top Student Block, determine your major (as admitted)
  4. Transfer students can contact Statler-AdvisingCenter@mail.wvu.edu to arrange an appointment with an advisor.

Your advisor will work to have any courses listed as “NOEQ 100” to be reviewed for equivalency. You may need to provide a syllabus for courses taken at your prior institution.

Transient

If a student is (or has been) a WVU student, and then decides to take courses at another institution (for any number of credits, over any length of time), then that credit is then determined to be transient credit. Please be sure to review transient policy prior to completing coursework in transient. If you are a student interested in completing transient coursework, please follow these steps:

  1. Meet with your academic advisor to discuss the course(s) in consideration
  2. Review the Transfer Credit Database to verify equivalency.
    1. If the course is not listed in the Transfer Course Database, submit a syllabus for review to the Transfer Equivalency Review Request.
  3. Upon verification of equivalency, complete a Transient Approval and send it to your academic advisor.
  4. Your advisor will review and (if correct) certify your request.
  5. Students will receive an email with the final decision from the Statler College.
