The Statler College will host two Engineering Challenge Camps the week of July 8.
Engineering in Action, a camp for high school students, will include activities related to recreational activities like baseball, biking and boating. Twenty-five campers from seven states will be in attendance.
Also for high school students, Engineering in Coding will include activities related to application development, hacking and robotics. Thirty campers from six states will be attending.
The camps are co-sponsored by EQT and the Statler College and are sponsored in part by Halliburton, Eaton, Chevron, Assurant and Northeast Natural Energy.

Build a Bike Workshop and Bike Ride
Campers will learn about the engineering behind bicycles while being led through a bike-building activity by Andrew Hoover. Later in the day, campers will test their bikes on a 10-mile ride on the Rail Trail.

Pitching Machine and Speed Gun Build and Test
Campers will work in teams to design and build a pitching machine that can throw a variety of pitches. They will focus on distance, speed and accuracy. Michael Brewster, an instructor in the Fundamentals of Engineering Program, will lead the activity.
Friday, July 13, 1:15 p.m., WVU Student Rec Center Pool
Cardboard Canoe Testing
Campers will test cardboard canoes that they designed and built throughout the week. The goal is for each team to carry two campers across the Rec Center pool without sinking.

Introduction to programming with Lego Mindstorms
Brian Woerner, chair of the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, will lead campers through an introduction to robotics using Lego Mindstorms.
Friday, July 13, 10 a.m., Media Innovation Center
Virtual Reality Environments
Campers will learn about virtual reality environments by using an Oculus Rift headset, and learn what applications virtual reality has to engineering industries.
