Dr. Cosmin Dumitrescu holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University "Politehnica" in Bucharest, Romania and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. After completing his graduate studies in 2008 Dr. Dumitrescu was a Research Associate at the National Research Council Canada in Ottawa, Canada, where he studied the effects of conventional and alternative fuels on advanced combustion strategies for enabling high-efficiency, clean internal combustion (IC) engines. In 2012 Dr. Dumitrescu became a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Sandia National Laboratories -Combustion Research Facility in Livermore, CA, where he used laser-based and imaging diagnostics to investigate the controlling physical and chemical processes in new high-efficiency, low-emission IC engine technologies
Part of WVU's Mountains of Excellence Initiative in Shale Gas Utilization (SGU), Dr. Dumitrescu works to advance research in highly efficient combustion systems for power generation and propulsion using natural gas, dual fuels, and various blends of natural gas with biomass, coal derivatives and other alternative fuels.
