Gene Cilento is the Glen Hiner Dean of the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University.

Welcome to the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. For more than 125 years, the College has been offering students seemingly endless opportunities for exploration and research.

The College has grown in leaps and bounds since the turn of the century, with more than 4,000 students enrolled in our seven academic departments. This growth has led to the hiring of 14 additional tenure-track faculty members in 2012, as well as construction of our new Advanced Engineering Research Building, which is expected to be completed in late 2012. The building, with a price tag of more than $43 million, will feature 22,000 square feet of much needed flexible research laboratory space, as well as a 15,000 square foot clean room.

The faculty and staff in the Statler College are dedicated to providing students with a first-rate education that instills strong basic knowledge for sound practice in science and engineering. Our graduates are highly sought after by business and industry, with many occupying key leadership positions in top engineering firms both at home and abroad.

Our students have the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of campus life including study abroad opportunities, student design teams, and extracurricular activities. Many participate in faculty research and also take advantage of co-op and internship programs.

This is an exciting time to be a student in the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources as we continue to grow and enhance our programs. I encourage students to take full advantage of the rich learning environment available at West Virginia University. For supporters and potential collaborators in industry, federal laboratories, and elsewhere, I welcome your interest in the Statler College. Please do not hesitate to contact me to pursue opportunities for collaboration.
