A long-serving department chair at West Virginia University has been recognized for his more than 30 years of service to industry and academia.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.—
Samuel Ameri, chair of the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, was named Outstanding Professor and Department Chair of the Year by the WVU Student Government Association Student Assembly. The awards recognize how Ameri’s service teaching and research has significantly impacted the campus community, his students and his field of research.

“I am honored and grateful to be recognized by the WVU Student Government Association Student Assembly with this incredible award,” Ameri said. “My career thus far, and hopefully for many more years to come, has always been about watching and helping our incredible students grow, achieve and make their dreams come true. I think when your heart is in the right place, everything else falls into place. This award means a great deal to me and I am humbled by the Assembly’s praise.”

Ameri, who was recently re-appointed to a sixth consecutive term as department chair, has received numerous awards, including being named the state’s Oil and Gas Man of the Year by the West Virginia Independent Oil and Gas Association. He has been named the PNGE Outstanding Professor several times and has earned numerous other awards from the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
