Dr. Cheng received his Ph.D. degree in 2005 from Purdue University. From August 2006 to June 2010, he was an Assistant Professor at Georgia Southern University. He joined West Virginia University as an Assistant Professor in August 2010. Before his Ph.D. Study, he had also worked as research engineer in Industrial Technology Research Institute and National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center in Taiwan for 3 years.

Dr. Cheng's primary research interests span the fields of mechatronics, dynamic systems and control, sensor and measurement, and engineering applications of MEMS. Dr. Cheng has also been active in research communities associated with mechatronics, automatic control, and robotics. He is members of several professional societies including ASME and IEEE.
